Preventing Root Rot: Keep Your Plants Healthy 🌱

Preventing Root Rot: Keep Your Plants Healthy 🌱

Root rot is often caused by over watering or poorly draining soil, leading to rotting roots and stunted growth. Here’s how to prevent it.

1. Well-Drained Soil: Ensure your plants are in well-drained soil or amend soil with perlite or sand to improve drainage.

2. Proper Watering: Water plants deeply but infrequently to avoid waterlogged conditions that promote root rot.

3. Air Circulation: Plant with adequate spacing to promote good air circulation around plants.

4. Avoid Overcrowding: Avoid overcrowding plants in containers or garden beds to reduce moisture buildup.

5. Remove Affected Plants: If root rot occurs, remove affected plants and soil and disinfect pots or planting beds before replanting.

Tips:

- Use a moisture meter to monitor soil moisture levels and water only when necessary.

- Apply a fungicide formulated for root rot prevention if plants are at risk or showing early signs of stress.

- Avoid using heavy, poorly draining potting mixes for container plants susceptible to root rot.
